The colourful escapades bring life to a standstill and make you reminisce some quiet moments with your loved ones; such is the beauty of the gorgeous tiny Union Territory of Puducherry (erstwhile Pondicherry). Lined with several small and quaint tourist spots, the UT adds another flavour to your sightseeing options- The Police Museum of Puducherry.

To give you a patriotic feeling and imbibe a sense of pride, you can connect with the ones who have protected us through decades of service. The Police Department presents their unique Police Museum showcasing their evolution through the years. It is set to make the common public aware of the arms and ammunition used by the police since the French regime.

#Trivia: It is a one-of-a-kind museum in the country displaying the different aspects of the police force.

All about the police museum at Puducherry

The police museum was set up on 10th July 1992 to make the public aware of the evolution of the police service from the French era to date. The small in-house museum running in a dilapidated house saw its movement to the police headquarters on 30th June 2018.

It is one street behind the seafront and is maintained to enhance public and police relations. It is a one-room museum that you can complete visiting within 30 to 45 mins. This room encompasses a wardrobe and three cabinets to showcase the Puducherry police history. A few documents displayed here go back to an era gone by and remind of the evolution, struggle, and the present police department.

#Trivia: The armoury section of the museum is maintained and taken care of by the CMT/PAP.

The wardrobe is full of the uniforms and headgears called Kipes that the police force has been wearing over the years. The cabinets are displayed with the guns, rifles and bayonets that were a part of the armed and police force.

There are even portraits and models of Puducherry police on various national functions such as Independence Day, Republic Day, and Liberation Day. To further add to the beauty, linger the flavours of the French regime exhibiting 380 pistols, .22 and .45 revolvers, 7.5mm and 9mm pistols, and cartridges.

Altogether, the museum depicts a fairly good narration of how the Puducherry police service has evolved and the kind of weaponry that has been in force.
