Ranga Pillai's personal life was characterized by virtue and simplicity. He was born on the 30th of March, 1709, in Madras, India. In fact, the home of Ananda Ranga Pillai, erected in 1733, is one of the outstanding examples of Indo-French architecture in Puducherry, and it is one of the oldest buildings in the whole state, owned by Tamil noblemen and traders. Located in the heart of the city, this edifice retains the atmosphere of cultural heritage while providing an enticing historical perspective for tourists.

The mansion, which was built in 1735 was named after the courtier, Ananda Ranga Pillai of the French Governor, Joseph Francois Dupleix. The privately owned and inhabited home, known as the Native Quarters, is one of just a few structures that are known to have survived the British conquest.
